    Tips for Better Holiday Photos

Digital Photography School offers some great tips for taking better holiday photos.  Their tips include:

    1. 1. Try to GET DOWN LOW to shoot photos of the kids.  We usually take pictures from our own eye level, but getting low offers a change of perspective and often a more flattering picture.  Your photos can be more personable and memorable as well.
    2. 2. If you are taking pictures in the Auto mode, you may notice that your flash is going off quite a bit.  This can lead to some washed-out colors and funky shadows on people's faces.  Try ADJUSTING THE ISO settings.  Beware that a very high ISO setting can cause the picture to be grainy.  Practice with your camera settings, including Aperture Priority mode or Shutter Priority mode.
    3. 3. It is often a habit to try and pose people for our pictures.  If you FOCUS ON THE MOMENTS instead of the pose, you may find that the memories of the holiday will linger in your photos.  Pictures of family members talking together, cooking or eating together, playing games or even napping will provide fond memories for years to come.  An unposed shot will often give a more relaxed subject as well.
    4. 4. PUT THE CAMERA DOWN.  Your family and friends want to be with you, not just the lens of your camera.  If you can be intentional in your holiday photo taking, you will be there to savor the time you have with family and friends.
